Precisely one month after the Ugolino’s approach to design and composition clearly reveals the influence of Duccio but he deployed a markedly different technique, using azurite for the blues rather than ultramarine, a rich and complex palette and little use of preliminary underdrawing.
Sam Baudinette, a Ph.D. Ugolino is documented in Siena in and The style of his work suggests that he was possibly trained, or at least heavily influenced, by Duccio, the most important Sienese artist of the 14th century. Ugolino's major work was the altarpiece for the church of Santa Croce in Florence.
